Depart Bangkok and head to the former capital of Ayutthaya. Once a vast island city, today the haunting ruins hint at its former glories can be seen in the temples. Hop on board a traditional long tail boat and enjoy a scenic cruise around the island before arriving at Kamphaeng Phet hotel for the night.
After breakfast visit Wat Phra That Lampang Luang. Climb the naga (dragon-headed serpent) staircase and explore the complex. Continue to the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre, which offers shelter and care to more than 50 Asian elephants. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before continuing onto Chiang Mai.
After breakfast visit one of the most revered temples in the country where you can appreciate stunning views over the city. Followed by a visit to the shopping heaven of San Kamphaeng Road. After lunch return to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure.
Bid farewell to Chiang Mai and head to Lamphun – one of the north’s most important temples. Admire the Buddha statues and impressive stupas, which include a 46-metre-tall Lanna style golden chedi and 21-metre-tall Haripunchai-style chedi. Head to the Sukhothai UNESCO World Heritage Site which covers the ruins of the first capital of Siam.
Depart Sukhothai after breakfast head to Lopburi, famed for the troops of macaques that roam the streets as if it were the jungle. Continue onto ancient Khmer temple and shrine known as the ‘Monkey Temple’ . After lunch you will continue to Bankok for drop off at inner city hotels.
