Kota Kinabalu- Kampung Kiau
Depart Kota Kinabalu and travel 2 hours along the ridges of the Crocker Range. Enjoy scenic mountain views on your way to Kampung Kiau. Upon arrival, you're welcomed by the village home-stay coordinator before being introduced to your host family. Take a walk around the village and enjoy the scenic views. Or you may opt to go trekking or join the locals in planting their crops, experience the traditional sports and games, or pick a "GIVE BACK" project with a tree planting program. Accommodation in the village home-stay is a basic room with very basic necessities.
Kampung Kiau - Poring Hot Springs
After breakfast, bid farewell to your host family. Depart to Kinabalu Park located at about 1,500 m above sea level. Kinabalu is a botanist's paradise with over a thousand species of orchids, numerous species of Rhododendrons, and pitcher plants. The bird life, most species being montane and several which are endemic is equally fascinating. After lunch, proceed to Poring Hot Springs at the Southern end of Kinabalu Park. Lowland dipterocarp forest makes up most of the vegetation at Poring and it is an excellent place to view lowland birds and some mammals. A short trek into the forest to the canopy walkway for a bird's eye view of the tropical rainforest. The Canopy Walkway is suspended between trees at the height of 40 meters and offers an excellent opportunity to observe wildlife in the canopy.
Poring Hot Springs - Kinabatangan River
Enjoy the fresh morning air with a walk around the Sabah Tea Plantation, the largest tea producing factory in Sabah. A guided tour introduces how "RAINFOREST" raw tea leaves are processed and packed for export. Continue onto Kinabatangan, driving through scenic countryside and villages, depending on traffic conditions, the journey takes about 3-4 hours with a short boat trip at the end. Chick in upon arrival and after a short rest head out on a cruise for wildlife spotting. The Kinabatangan River has the greatest concentration of wildlife in Malaysia and possibly all of Borneo.
This morning rise early and discover the sights and sounds of Borneo. A leisurely boat trip into the midst of the changing colours in the horizon as dawn sets in at six o’clock in the morning. After breakfast you then travel by boat to Bilit Village and meet the Orang Sungai Tribe. Visit their homes and cook local lunch with them and later dine with the family. After that, travel overland to Sandakan passing through scenic countryside, local villages and plantations. En-route, we will drop by Gomantong Cave, famous for the nests that are used for birds nest soup.
Sandakan - Selingan IslandAfter breakfast, check out and transfer to the jetty for the boat to Turtle Island. The island lies 40 km north of Sandakan in the Sulu Sea off Sabah's East Coast. Selingan Turtle Island is the main nesting area for the Green Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles. Relax after lunch with leisure time. The island is ideal for swimming and snorkelling. After dinner we will wait for news from the Park Rangers on the sighting of any turtles that have com ashore to lay eggs.
Selingan Island - Sandakan
Check-out after breakfast and depart to the Sandakan Jetty for the boat at 7.00am. Back on the mainland, transfer to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre situated in the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. Here you get to visit the orang utan that have been orphaned, rescued from illegal captivity, or injured individuals. Before experiencing the feeding of the orang utans, you will be invited to watch a video presentation which highlights the plight of the orang utans and the efforts taken to rehabilitate them. After the tour, transfer to Sandakan Airport or hotel where tour arrangements end.
