Tokyo – Takayama
This morning board the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Takayama. On arrival you will be met by a local guide for a walking tour of this beautifully preserved old town dating from the Edo Period (1600-1868)
Takayama – Shirakawa-go – Kanazawa
Today you will visit the Takayama morning market before a visit to World Heritage Shirakawa-go and savour the taste of home style cooking. You then continue to the Wada Residence. Time in the afternoon to wander through the village after lunch before heading to Kanazawa for your overnight stay.
Kanazawa – Kyoto
This morning your first stop will be the Nagamachi Samurai District and soak in the atmosphere of the days of the samurai in this area. Explore the area with Kenrokuen Gardens, continuing on you will visit the Higashi Chays district, with its wooden-latticed exteriors of teahouses lining both sides of the stone-paved street. After a stop at the Hakuza (gold leaf shop) you will head to Kanazawa station – arriving Kyoto around 6pm.

1/ This is a locally guided tour with different local guides provided for you in each city. The tour operates on a modular basis and you may be travelling with different passengers each day.
2/ Trains in Japan do not have adequate space for luggage storage. Your baggage will be transferred overland from Tokyo to Takayama on day 1 and will be at your hotel when you arrive in Kyoto on day 3. An allowance of one piece of baggage per person is included. Additional pieces will incur a surcharge payable direct in Japan. Alternatively if you are returning to Tokyo at the completion of this tour we recommend leaving your main luggage at your Tokyo Hotel and traveling with a small overnight bag.
