Day 1 Siem Reap – Kampong Thom Province
Depart Siem Reap bound for the Kampong Thom Province. Visit the Sambor Prei Kuk Temples followed by an afternoon opportunity to experience and enjoy the daily life of the local people in the Isanborei Community. This evening overnight in a homestay.
Day 2 Kampong Thom – Kratie
Today travel to Kratie, a small colonial style town where Wat Phnom Sambok is visited – a top of the mountain, beautiful scenes of the Mekong River are enjoyed. Stop at a riverside vantage point from which to view the rare fresh water Irrawady River Dolphins. Take a small ferryboat to the island of Koh Trong where you will overnight.
Day 3 Kratie – Rattanakiri
Cycle around the island via traditional Khmer villages, fruit orchards and rice fields while observing the daily rituals and routines of the traditional village life. Take a ferry ride back to Kratie and continue by land to Rattanakiri.
Day 4 Rattanakiri
Explore the Ta Veng District, home to many different minority groups. Visit various pleasant Kroeung villages that line the road throughout the forest. Continue on to Yeak Laom Volcanic Lake which sits in a 4,000-year-old volcano crater, surrounded by lush jungle and walking trails. Follow the path surrounding the lake and admire an abundance of plant and animal life, keeping an eye out for exotic birds in particular.
Day 5 Rattanakiri – Mondulkiri
Today transfer to Mondulkiri and visit the scenic Bousra Waterfall. En-route, visit some minority villages and a coffee plantation. Late afternoon enjoy a sunset view (dependant on weather conditions) at Phnom Dos Kramom.
Day 6 Mondulkiri – Phnom Penh
This morning wander through a local market before embarking on a journey to Phnom Penh. On the way, pass via the famous rubber plantations of the Kampong Cham province and visit Wat Nokor Temple, an Angkorian temple dating from the 11th century. A stop at the famous Spider Market in Skun is also on the cards – regularly visited by international travellers, find an assortment of trays with different types of fried bugs and insects to be tasted, however the market is best known for the spiders and tarantulas. Continue travelling to reach the capital, Phnom Penh where tour arrangements end.
