Hakone
Within easy travelling distance of Tokyo, the town of Hakone is well known as a mountainous holiday resort with several small towns that include renowned hot springs, traditional inns, open-air museums and spectacular mountain scenery including fantastic views of Mt.Fuji (weather permitting).
With an efficient network of buses, trains, cable cars, ropeways and sightseeing boats, Hakone is a great place to be explored by public transportation.
Most visitors purchase the Hakone Pass, which gives unlimited use on all Odakyu affiliated services.
Popular spots to visit include Owakudani, a volcanic valley with active sulphur vents; Lake Ashi, a crater lake along the southwest wall of the caldera of Mt.Hakone which was formed by a powerful volcanic eruption nearly 3,000 years ago; Susuki Sougen, the silver grass fields of Sengokuhara; a stone Buddha and stone towers situated in Moto-Hakone; and the cedar trees along Kyu-Kaido Street.
