Hiroshima

The city whose name serves as a reminder of the fateful event on 6th August 1945, Hiroshima has emerged from its dark and tragic past to become a vibrant city that boasts tree-lined boulevards, historic monuments, captivating museums and beautiful gardens.

When the first atomic bomb was dropped over Hiroshima, the city became known worldwide for this unenviable distinction – pay your respects at Peace Memorial Park and Museum, built in commemoration and a reminder to future generations.

Reflecting the aspirations of a re-born city, Hiroshima has many other sights worthy of a visit including the temple walk in Onomichi, Shukkeien Garden with its beautiful landscape and Hiroshima Museum of Art with galleries by Japanese and French artists including Monet.

The city is also well known for its delicious oysters and okonomiyaki, along with being the gateway to the picturesque island of Miyajima, home to the UNESCO listed Itsukushima Shrine and its red torii gate.
