General

Life on the Mekong River is varied and fascinating – a striking cultural contrast to the Western world. Embark the RV Mekong Pandaw for a magical cruise between Saigon and Siem Reap.

Cruise via Cia Be and Chau Doc before crossing the Cambodian border. By cyclo explore Phnom Penh with an optional excursion (by coach) to the Killing Fields and the Khmer Rouge’s grim Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum or S21 detention centre. Dependant on water levels travel via ship (or coach) up the Tonle River to a silver making village, Kampong Trolach and Chong Koh. This stretch of water is very pretty with a vibrant local life to be viewed along the river banks. After an all-day sail through the delightful Cambodian countryside, reach the charming French colonial town of Kratie – no other river ships get this high but thanks to the Mekong Pandaw’s shallow draft it can be attempted. From Kratie, go further upstream using a local bus to view the dolphin grounds in a national park protected area. Return downstream and moor overnight near Kampong Cham before travelling via coach to Siem Reap.
