Itinerary


Day 1: Vientiane (D)

Meet with the guide for a tour briefing followed by a traditional Lao dinner.

Day 2: Vientiane – Paksan (B, L, D) Cycle 83km

Day 3: Paksan – Tha Thom (B, L, D) Cycle 90km

Head north, following the San River upstream into the foothills of Laos’ highest mountain - Phou Bia. The ride will be tough with some climbs to conquer. Overnight at a very simple guesthouse in this remote region.

Day 4: Tha Thom – Muang Khoun (B, L, D) Cycle 94km

Ride through true hidden Laos – an area previously called Xaysomboun Special Zone, a restricted area that was until recently strictly off-limits. After some serious climbs, arrive in Muang Khoun, the ancient capital of the powerful Xieng Khouang Kingdom.

Day 5: Muang Khoun – Phonsavanh (B, L, D) Cycle 35km

Start the day by visiting a few ancient temples and colonial heritage sites. Cycle through rice paddies to the provincial capital Phonsavanh, located in the centre of the Plain of Jars.

Day 6: Phonsavanh – Phou Khoun (B, L, D) Cycle 75km

Well rested, start another tough, but extremely scenic day. Overnight just outside the town of Phou Khoun with its outstanding views of karst mountains.

Day 7: Phou Khoun – Vang Vieng (B, L) Cycle 100km

Begin the day with a magnificent downhill back into the Mekong Valley. Ride along the Nam Xong River through the limestone outcrops of Vang Vieng. An early arrival allows for a swim, kayak or a stroll along the river.

Day 8: Vang Vieng – Ban Keun (B, L, D) Cycle 125km

The up and down ride today takes you along the western side of the vast Nam Ngum reservoir. This is a long ride so uplifts over the hills are available.

Day 9: Ban Keun – Vientiane (B, L) Cycle 64km

The home stretch is a breeze back to Vientiane. You are free to fly out this afternoon or evening.
