Walk the loveliest sections of the Nakasendo Trail on this 5 day self-guided walking tour.

The Nakasendo of ‘Road through the Central Mountains’ was part of feudal Japan’s network of highways, with travellers moving between Kyoto and Tokyo. Today, visitors can walk sections of the original route – the walking is mostly paved village paths and unpaved mountain trails, with some gentle ascents and descents. Start from either Kyoto or Tokyo and travel by train and bus to Magome.

Highlights include walking over the Magome Pass to Tsumago, one of the best-preserved and most evocative of the Nakasendo post-towns, whilst Tsumago to Nojiri offers a beautiful and varied hike.
