On this 18-day trip, we’ll take you from the bustling centre of Colombo to the historic cities of Anuradhapura, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya, living adventures along the way. Journey through landscapes and time as you experience the cultural beauty and natural splendour of the country. Stay in some of the most beautiful hideaways as you visit breath-taking fortresses, opulent temples and witness one of the Eight Wonders of the World as the sun rises over the utterly romantic and awe-inspiring Sigiriya. Itinerary

This holiday is solely a suggested itinerary: it can be booked as it is or used as a starting point for creating your very own custom-made tour.


Day 1 Colombo

Arrive in Colombo and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2 Colombo

Enjoy a city tour of Colombo by tuk tuk taking in the busy commercial areas of the city along with the tree lined residential areas.

Day 3 Colombo – Jaffna

Board a train from Colombo to Jaffna.

Day 4 Jaffna

Enjoy a city tour of Jaffna, the northern most region of Sri Lanka and visit key sights.

Day 5 Jaffna – Anuradhapura

Board a train from Jaffna to Anuradhapura. This evening visit Anuradhapura Ancient City and explore the ruins of this UNESCO World Heritage listed site.

Day 6 Anuradhapura – Polonnaruwa

Transfer to Gal Oya and board a train to Polonnaruwa. This evening visit Polonnaruwa Ancient City and admire the monuments and structures.

Day 7 Polonnaruwa – Pasikudah via Batticaloa

Board a train from Polonnaruwa to Batticaloa and then transfer to Pasikudah on Sri Lanka’s east coast.

Day 8 Pasikudah

Enjoy a day at leisure at the beach.

Day 9 Pasikudah – Dambulla

Travel by land to Dambulla and visit the striking Dambulla Cave Temples.

Day 10 Dambulla

Head to Sigiriya and climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress which affords stunning views from the top. In the evening enjoy a safari at Minneriya National Park.

Day 11 Dambulla – Kandy

Travel by land to Kandy and enjoy an evening city tour including the Temple of the Tooth Relic followed by a colourful Kandy cultural show.

Day 12 Kandy – Ella

Transfer to Peradeniya and board a train to Ella.

Day 13 Ella

Enjoy a city tour in Ella including the much photographed and iconic nine arch bridge.

Day 14 Ella – Yala

Travel by land to Yala. In the evening enjoy a safari at Yala National Park which is famous for its big herds and large number of elephants, leopards, spotted deer, sambhur, crocodiles, mongoose, wild boar and wild buffalo.

Day 15 Yala – Galle

Travel by land to Galle where the evening is spent at leisure.

Day 16 Galle

Explore this quaint and intriguing city including The Dutch Fort where the central city is contained. Boutique shops, cafes and restaurants await here.

Day 17 Galle – Negombo via Colombo

Board a train from Galle to Colombo and transfer through to Negombo. The rest of the day is spent at leisure.

Day 18 Colombo

Transfer to Colombo Airport where tour arrangements end.
