Day 1: Fukuoka – Kagoshima (D)
Departing from Fukuoka, transfer via Shinkansen to Kumamoto where you will view Kumamoto Castle from the outside. Heavily damaged by earthquakes in 2016, the castle is currently undergoing restoration work however there are still many safe areas to view the castle from. This afternoon, depending on the season (Nov-Mar), visit the Izumi Crane Observation Centre where migratory birds come to Izumi for the winter – there are over 10,000 cranes of different species including hooded cranes, white-naped cranes and common cranes. (Apr-Oct), visit the Izumi-Fumoto Samurai Residences – in the district there are about 150 samurai residences.

Day 2: Kagoshima – Ibusuki (B, D)
This morning, enjoy a city tour of Kagoshima with highlights including Sengan-en, Shoko Shuseikan and Shiroyama Observatory. This afternoon, visit Kamafuta Shrine, said to be flowing with a mystical power, which wards off evil and brings good luck, and is visited by various celebrities and sports athletes.

Day 3: Ibusuki – Aoshima (B, D)
Today, visit the southernmost point of Kagoshima’s Satsuma Peninsula, this point offers a beautiful view of Kaimondake volcano, also known as the Mt.Fuji of Satsuma. You will also enjoy a ferry trip from Satsuma Peninsula to Osumi Peninsula. Later, transfer to Aoshima – this small island is surrounded by curious rippled rock formations, nicknamed the ‘Devil’s Washboard.’

Day 4: Aoshima – Hakata (B)
This morning, head to Hyuga from which, at the observation deck, lay your eyes on a cross-shaped sea reef formed by surrounding rocks eroded by the waves. It is said to be a lucky place where wishes made at the location will come true. Continue on to Takachiho Gorge, a valley that stretches for about 7km and is flanked by steep walls of rock towering 80 to 100 metres. Manai Falls is located at the narrowest point on the river. This area is especially beautiful in the autumn leaf season in late November. In the evening, arrive at Hakata Station where tour arrangements end.
